RULES

The 3rd Katowice International Guitar Competition will be held on January 17-21, 2023.
Organizers are: MODRAN-2 Concert Agency and the Complex of State Music Schools. W. Kilar in Katowice.

 

The competition is held in three divisions:

 

Group 1 – till 15 years old (born after 21.01.2007)

 

1. a free choice piece by classical composer
2. a free choice etude or capriccio
3. a free choice programme – optionally
(total time: up to 12 minutes)

 

Group 2 – till 18 years old (born after 21.01.2004)

 

Round 1
1. a ree choice piece by romantic composer
2. a free choice etude or capriccio
3. a free choice programme – optionally
(total time: up to 12 minutes)

Round 2
1. a free choice variations
2. a free choice programme
(total time: up to 15 minutes)

 

Group 3 – till 21 years old (born after 21.01.2001)

 

Round 1
1. a free choice piece by renaissance or baroque composer
2. a free choice etude or capriccio
3. a free choice programme – optionally
(total time: up to 12 minutes)

 

Round 2
1. a free choice piece composed after 1975
2. a free choice variations
3. a free choice programme – optionally
(total time: up to 20 minutes)

 

The programme of the competition has to be performed by heart. The pieces from previous rounds (in groups 2 and 3) cannot be repeated. The jurors score on a scale of 10-25 points. and evaluate: the performance workshop of the participant, interpretative coherence of the works with style and musical period, originality and artistic personality of the performer. Scoring of stages is NOT summed up (concerning groups 2 and 3). Individual scores of the Jury will be announced after the competition. The Jury's decision is final and there is no appeal procedure.

 

Entering the competition will be possible only through the registration on www.katowiceguitarcompetition.mh1.pl, deadline - 18th of December, 2023.
The registration fee – 50 Euro - should be transferred to the bank account of MODRAN Concert Agency: PL18105016761000009259476001 (BIC Swift code: INGBPLPW) with a note “the registration fee for the guitar competition” by 16th of January, 2023.

  • invitations to international guitar festivals and workshops
  • special awards for: the best performance of an etude/capriccio, the best performance of a piece composed after 1975, the most interesting performance of variations
  • special prize for the youngest participant in the competition
  • GRAND PRIX prize for the highest scored participant of the competition (invitation to perform a recital during the 4th International Guitar Competition in Katowice).
